San Francisco Street Sighting - 1987 Nissan Sentra GXE wagon

Not every rare vehicle is exciting. Many are humble and unassuming, perhaps unpopular variants or editions of mainstream nameplates. Such is the case of this 1987 Nissan Sentra GXE wagon. Of all the cars I've photographed in depth, this is the one that I debated the most (and probably the longest, over two years). Is it notable? The guys who run OldParkedCars would have posted it, for what that's worth. Why feature this while turning up my nose at a lot of older, cooler cars? In a town full of old and unusual cars, an old Beetle or Mustang typically doesn't evoke a reaction from me anymore. For some reason, this relatively straight example of a rarely seen late 1980s Japanese station wagon just spoke to me. What do you think? Milquetoast '80s econobox or interesting automotive footnote?

  1. i, for one, like it. these older nissans.they are great cars. economical, reliable, and pretty comfortable. like the 510 these will be the next classic import. lackluster styling, it is not sporty or luxurious, and looks awkward as a station wagon. these are the traits that when lowered, with some nice wheels and low profile tires, make a unique and super cool cruiser.

  2. I've been driving one like this for seven years now and the more I drive it the more it grows on me - I just love it! They just don't make them like that any more. Simple, unassuming, possibly somewhat awkwardly styled, yet by no means ugly, they are now not so numerous survivors of "Old School" car era which is growing in popularity. I now hear more comments from strangers (both older and younger generations, even ones born after 1990) to the effect of how good these cars are (were). Mine has done over 320,000 km (200K miles) and still going very strong. And it is fun to drive!
